Movie Review : Talaash

(Be assured. I won't reveal the movie's suspense)

Talaash isn't the most action-packed thriller you'd have seen. It would be a disappointment if you expect what you expect from a thriller - a lot of 'edge of the seat' moments. But it isn't, at least not completely.

Aamir Khan plays police officer Surjan Singh Shekhawat aka Suri, Rani Mukherji plays Roshni, Suri's wife and Kareena Kapoor the friendly prostitute.

The suspense in Talaash builds up slowly and the movie seems still at the moments. But the script is good. And there are moments that set your heart racing for a minute. This one is no commonplace film with comic dialogues and cheap thrills at inappropriate points of time. You have to watch it in attention, bear its slow pace but at the end you get a watchable, if not an excellent product. The movie also tries to uncover the dark side of the glittering city of dreams.

The movie begins with the mysterious accident of a popular film actor. Suri is a police officer investigating the case. At personal level he is emotionally  filled with thoughts of guilt and prefers isolation. He stays awake and roams about investigating throughout the night. Till he meets Rosy, the too-inviting prostitute who succeeds in giving him some peace and sleep. Rosy gives Suri hints about the case but in riddles. Roshni is a mother seeking closure after her son's death. The Roshni-Suri part is for most part a  family drama wonderfully enacted by the respective actors. The Rosy-Suri part is the suspense part amongst other happenings and characters.

After the first half, you will form various possibilities in your head. I formed and all of them turned out to be  wrong. The second half slowly unravels the suspense and links the different parts of story together. The suspense gets a good closure. What disappointed me somewhat was the movie's end, it certainly could have been better.

The actors in the main cast continue there streak of good performances. I would also like to mention Nawazuddin Siddiqui  who plays a small criminal with big dreams. He has earned me as a fan. He has played very different roles in Kahani, Gangs of Wasseypur and Talaash, and has played them flawlessly.

The story may be too different from other thrillers for some people. But it is worth a watch. This could have been a masterpiece if the pace was more enjoyable and a more convincing ending.

My rating : 3/5 Watchable
