Movie Review: Special Chabbis

On one end, Bollywood is witnessing a flood of zero-IQ movies and on the other some quality work of cinema is being produced for us. 'Special Chabbis' is the latest entrant in the latter category.

The movie is about a gang of conmen with  Akshay Kumar and Anupam Kher as the leaders. The gang robs businessman and politicians with their artistic style and a careful amount of tactics, pretending to be CBI or the I.T department. The plot is based on real-life accounts of the 1980's. The movie succeeds in keeping you hooked till the end with an original script, humour, thrilling twists, some witty dialogues and some amazing performances by Anupam Kher, Akshay Kumar and Manoj Bajpai.

The plot is set in the 1980's and the director Neeraj Pandey makes sure elements of the gone times are included, be it be background music or the opening credits .There is a little romantic angle between Akshay Kumar and Kajal Aggarwal, but is lacklustre and ,in my opinion, could have been done away with. Also, a  marriage scene and a rather long telecast of road journeys could have been avoided. The music is not really this movie's strength.

One of the best scenes in the movie

Akshay Kumar finally gives justice to his prowess as an actor by choosing a script as good as this. He delivers a great performance as the confident fake-CBI officer. Anupam Kher and Manoj Bajpai amazed me as ever. Other notable artists-Jimmy Shergill, Divya Dutta.

My rating : 4/5 - Must Watch!
